Blind Assessment
Deep-toned, balanced coffee. Gently tart acidity, lean but silky mouthfeel. Cherryish fruit with a hint of lemon and a lean toward chocolate dominate aroma and cup, coasting into a long, sweet finish.
Notes
Coffee from the Toraja region of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, once Celebes, typically displays a wild and often earth-toned character, the result of the unorthodox "wet-hulled" method of fruit removal and drying. However, the clean sweetness and balance of this particular Sulawesi suggests it is a more conventional wet-processed or "washed" coffee. With two locations in Southern California's Orange County, Kean Coffee is an in-house coffee roaster and retailer established by Martin Diedrich of the famous Diedrich coffee family. The Kean slogan, "Martin knows his beans" should be true, considering Martin grew up in Guatemala where the family owned a coffee farm.Visit www.keancoffee.com or call 949-933-9164 for more information.
Who Should Drink It
This cleanly resonant cup gives us Sulawesi depth without the usual Sulawesi earthy ambiguities.
