Blind Assessment
Balanced, quietly but vibrantly pungent. Mulberry, tangerine, honey, musk, fresh-cut cedar in aroma and cup. Bright, juicy acidity; plump, lively mouthfeel. Mulberry and tangerine, in particular, carry into a sweet finish.
Notes
Produced from trees of the admired heirloom SL28 and SL34, as well as French Mission and the hybrid Ruiru 11, varieties of Arabica. Despite challenges ranging from unclear government coffee policy and urban encroachment on prime coffee lands to chronically unstable weather, the famed Kenya coffee auction system and its participating cooperatives continue to produce some of the world’s most elegant and distinctive coffees. This sample consists entirely of peaberries, a kind of bean that results when the coffee fruit develops only a single, oval bean rather than the usual pair of flat-sided beans. Peaberries produce a somewhat different (often better) cup than normal beans from the same crop, from which they may or may not be separated during grading. Pebble Coffee is a specialty micro-roaster located in Taipei, Taiwan that focuses on high-end coffees. Email [email protected] or call +886-2-2760-8616 for more information.
Who Should Drink It
Those who value a bright, juicy version of the classic pungently sweet Kenya profile.
