Blind Assessment

Crisply and subtly sweet. Black currant, almond, gardenia-like flowers, dark chocolate in aroma and cup. Rounded, rich acidity; light but syrupy mouthfeel. Black currant and chocolate notes resonate in the quietly rich-toned, gently drying finish.

Notes

Produced from the SL-28 variety of Arabica, the tree variety that produces the finest coffees of Kenya. Despite challenges ranging from unclear government coffee policy and urban encroachment on prime coffee lands to chronically unstable weather, the famed Kenya coffee auction system and its participating cooperatives continue to produce some of the world’s most elegant and distinctive coffees. Purchased as whole bean in a 12-ounce foil bag with one-way degassing valve at a Whole Foods location in northern California. This sample was roasted, roast-dated, and packaged at Ritual’s San Francisco, California facility. Ritual is a frequently celebrated (NY Times, etc.), obsessively quality-oriented roastery based in San Francisco, California. Visit www.ritualroasters.com or call 415-641-1024 for more information.

Who Should Drink It

Those who enjoy an invigorating balance between sweet and tart notes in a delicate but subtly powerful Kenya cup.
