Blind Assessment
Sweetly spice-toned, complex and satiatingly fruity. Black cherry kombucha, clove, pipe tobacco, molasses in aroma and cup. Lively, sparkling acidity; creamy, lithe mouthfeel. Incredibly long, harmonious, integrated finish.
Notes
This exceptional coffee was selected as the No. 5 coffee on Coffee Review’s list of the Top 30 Coffees of 2024. Produced by Rigoberto Herrera Correa and his brother Luis at Finca Hawaii, a farm in Cundinamarca operated by Cafe Granja La Esperanza, entirely of the Mokka variety of Arabica (from seeds of Mokka trees grown in Kāʻanapali, Maui) and processed by the anaerobic natural method (whole coffee fruit is fermented with limited oxygen before drying). Paradise prides itself on quality and freshness, craft-roasting coffees in small batches only after orders are placed. Visit www.paradiseroasters.com or call 808-498-4048 for more information.
Bottom Line
A unique — and uniquely compelling Colombia-grown Mokka from Hawaiian seeds, experimentally fermented to dramatic (fruity, spicy, savory) effect. Complex, elusive, evocative.
