Blind Assessment

Smooth, rich, big-bodied, almost sugary sweet, with aromatic wood notes and a mild though distinct fruit ferment that hits raisin squarely and shades into dark chocolate. The sweetly rich finish grows very slightly tight in the long.

Notes

Monsooned Malabars are arabica coffees that, after drying inside the fruit and fruit removal, have been exposed to wet, salty winds inside special open-sided warehouses during the monsoon season. After several months of such exposure the beans swell to about twice their normal size, lose acidity, and develop a malty, musty character. Julian Coffee Roasters subtitles itself "Micro Roasted, Macro Taste," and expresses pride in its "Java for a cause" locally-focused charity and fund-raising program. Visit www.juliancoffee.com or call 317-247-4208 for more information.

Who Should Drink It

Those looking for a smooth, syrupy version of the rustically musty monsooned profile.
