Blind Assessment
Dynamically sweet, deeply rich. Lavender, pistachio, sweet paprika, baker’s chocolate, dried persimmon in aroma and cup. Sweetly crisp, lilting acidity; lightly satiny mouthfeel. The long resonant finish is bittersweet (lavender), nut-toned (pistachio), with a chocolate throughline and hints of sweet paprika.
Notes
Yirgacheffe is a coffee region in southern Ethiopia that produces distinctive coffees from traditional varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. Yirgacheffe coffees like this one processed by the wet or washed method (fruit skin and pulp are removed before drying) typically express great aromatic complexity and intensity with a particular emphasis on citrus and floral notes. Like virtually all coffees from southern Ethiopia, this coffee is most likely produced by villagers on small, garden plots interplanted with food and other subsistence crops. This particular coffee was purchased from the ECX, or Ethiopian Commodity Exchange, founded in April 2008 to discipline, regulate and bring transparency to the commodities market in Ethiopia, including the market for green coffee. The WestBean is a San Diego-based roastery founded by two friends with a passion for coffee and a determination to bring their customers the highest quality hand-crafted coffee possible. Bottom Line
A multi-layered, dynamic, sweetly spice- and floral-toned coffee.
