Blind Assessment
Delicately intricate; deeply sweet and pungent. Lavender, black currant, gently scorched cedar, grapefruit zest, baker’s chocolate in aroma and cup. The structure is dominated by a richly round tartness, with a backgrounded roasty, bittersweet edge. Full, plush mouthfeel. A floral vanilla note surfaces in a resonant roast-toned finish.
Notes
This excellent coffee was recognized as one of the three most exciting darker roast coffees of 2017. Produced from trees of the SL28 and SL34 varieties of Arabica by the Tekangu Agricultural Cooperative. Despite challenges ranging from unclear government coffee policy and urban encroachment on prime coffee lands to chronically unstable weather, the famed Kenya coffee auction system and its participating cooperatives continue to produce some of the world’s most elegant and distinctive coffees. This coffee attracted the second-highest rating in a tasting of nearly 130 darker-roasted coffees for Coffee Review‘s August 2017 tasting report. Another Beans Coffee Roaster is a South-Korea based roaster of premium specialty coffees founded in 2016 by Sangjun Hong. Visit www.anotherbeans.com for more information.
Bottom Line
A distinct roasty edge complicates this superb Kenya, with its characteristic and engaging tart berry, grapefruit citrus and crisp floral notes.
