Blind Assessment
Deep-toned, richly sweet-savory. Bergamot, butterscotch, red currant, dried hibiscus, almond wood in aroma and cup. Intricate, complex, balanced structure; delicate, silky mouthfeel. The finish, rich, long and deeply sweet, consolidates to bergamot and butterscotch.
Notes
Despite grower discontent and urban encroachment on prime coffee lands, Kenya continues to produce some of the world’s most elegant and distinctive coffees. Black Coffee in Black Jar, a Taiwan-based nano-roaster and café, is named for both the Taiwanese colloquialism “black soy sauce in black jar,” indicating something is difficult to see through, and the literal black jar this company stores coffee in to protect it from UV light. Bottom Line
Elegant and complex: an expressive Kenya coffee with sweet-savory depth and engaging top notes of bergamot, butterscotch and red currant.
