Blind Assessment
Intense, rich, pungent. Blood orange, black currant, fresh-cut fir, plum blossom in aroma and in cup, where a slight savory, truffle-like edge deepens and complicates flavor. Powerful but opulently balanced acidity; lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Resonant, gently drying, flavor-saturated finish.
Notes
This exceptional coffee was selected as the #13 coffee in the Coffee Review Top 30 Coffees of 2013. From the slopes of Mt. Elgon in far western Kenya rather than from the more familiar growing regions of central Kenya. Produced by the nearly 2,000 very small-holding members of the Kikai cooperative. Founded in 1990, Lexington Coffee is an award-winning artisan roasting company based in Virginia. Lexington’s focus on fresh, flavorful and sustainable coffee is reflected in its motto, “Fresh, Flavorful & Fair.” Visit www.lexingtoncoffee.com or call 800-322-6505 for more information.
Who Should Drink It
Those who enjoy the deep, richly pungent, fruit-toned but slightly savory side of the Kenya profile. Lovers of big, complexly balanced red table wines may be particularly good candidates for this coffee.
