Blind Assessment
Spicy, sweetly herb-toned. Eucalyptus, hazelnut, orange bitters, black peppercorn in aroma and cup. Brisk, juicy acidity; lean, satiny mouthfeel. The richly drying finish shows eucalyptus and hazelnut in the short and black peppercorn in the long.
Notes
Produced entirely of trees of the Catimor variety of Arabica on the Smaldeel Estate. The grading is done by bean size to the conventional East African standards of AA, AB and C, with the extra-large-bean screen 18-plus coffees being classified as AAA. This is a wet-processed or “washed” coffee, meaning the fruit skin and pulp were removed from the beans immediately after harvesting and before drying. Established in 2010, Red Rooster is an organic-certified micro-roaster focusing on socially conscious coffee and high-quality coffee. Bottom Line
An unusual coffee both in structure and flavor that will appeal to those who value bold herb notes with sweet nut and spice undertones.
