Blind Assessment
Gently fruit-toned. Raspberry jam, wine barrel, dark chocolate, hazelnut, gardenia in aroma and cup. Sweet-toned with brisk acidity; velvety-smooth mouthfeel. The finish evokes hard berry cider with chocolate and gardenia undertones.
Notes
Yirgacheffe coffees like this one are largely produced from traditional Ethiopian landrace varieties of Arabica long grown in the region. This is a wet-processed or “washed” version (fruit skin and pulp are removed before drying). The green coffee was subsequently stored in oak barrels used to age red wine for several weeks. San Francisco Bay Coffee is one of five coffee brands produced by the family-owned Rogers Family Company. Visit www.sfbaycoffee.com or call 800-829-1300 for more information.
Bottom Line
A barrel-fermented Ethiopia cup with a light touch — just a hint of wine cask on the nose and palate — supported by sweet berry, floral and chocolate suggestions.
